En 1901, Mary Baker Eddy a délivré son message annuel de communion aux membres de son église. Elle y aborde une variété de sujets, y compris la suprématie et la bonté de Dieu. Elle explique aussi plus en profondeur que le Christ est « l’individualité spirituelle de Jésus ». Elle parle du Pasteur de l’Eglise du Christ, Scientiste (la Bible et son ouvrage Science et Santé).
En arrivant à la conclusion de son message, elle encourage ainsi ceux qui la suivent : « ...étudiez la Bible et le livre d’étude de notre confession ; obéissez strictement aux lois en vigueur, et ne suivez votre Leader que pour autant qu’elle suit le Christ. » (p. 34) Ces mots continuent d’interpeller les scientistes chrétiens et de les guider aujourd’hui.

She also explains more fully the Christ as “Jesus’ spiritual selfhood.” She speaks about the pastor of The First Church of Christ, Scientist (the Bible and her book Science and Health).
Near the conclusion of the message she encourages her followers: “...study the Bible and the textbook of our denomination; obey strictly the laws that be, and follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ.” (p. 34) These words continue to resonate with and guide Christian Scientists today.
